Upon graduation from Texas A&M University in 1974, Doug Goodwin entered the landscape contracting business. This company grew to handle not only landscape installation projects, but also plant leasing, holiday decorating, and retail sales. The company was sold in 1983.
In 1984 Doug passed the Licensed Irrigator exam given by the state of Texas and was issued license number 1830. Irrigation Services was formed and has handled residential, commercial and large institutional projects. He is active in both state and local irrigation associations and is preparing for certifications offered by the IA, (Internationally recognized Irrigation Association).
Ten years ago, Doug became interested in Computer Aided Design and began using the technology to upgrade his sales and bidding process. Continuing education credits became a requirement for the renewal of the irrigation license in September of 1996. Since that time introductory, intermediate, and advanced classes have been offered.
Water conservation must be recognized and addressed by all walks of life. Irrigators can play an important role in this process. Sound design, installation techniques, proper equipment, and scheduling management will all decrease the amount of water being used by as much as 50%. Just think how much water could be saved by using pressure regulated sprays and a reasonable attempt at scheduling. |
